International Mother Language Day celebration

On February 21st, the High Commission of Bangladesh in Sri Lanka celebrated World Mother Language Day at the Independence Square. The objective of this event is to promote multilingualism and preserve mother languages around the world. Artist Nisansala Karunaratne Rajapaksa was invited by Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to assist invitees, heads of foreign missions, and representatives of UN organizations in conversing via Canvases at the historic Independence Square. Nisansala Karunaratne Rajapaksa also had the honour of inviting the esteemed Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to chair the event. Many countries’ ambassadors and high commissioners participated, including Bangladesh High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Tareq Md Ariful Islam, United Nations Permanent Representative Sarath Das, State Ministers Suresh Raghavan and Tharaka Balasuriya, Secretary to the Prime Minister Anura Dissanayake, and Education Secretary Nihal Ranasinghe.
